Little Western Model Engineering – Services Overview
At Little Western, we’ve come a long way from our roots as a small scale model engineering workshop. Over the years, we’ve expanded our services to include sales, valuations, display work, and miniature railway construction. Despite all this, we still enjoy offering the same quality model engineering services we have over the last 10 years.
We’ve worked on a variety of live steam model locomotives in different scales, as well as road steam and battery electric locomotives. If there’s ever a project that requires expertise we don’t have in-house, we’ve built strong partnerships with trusted suppliers, ensuring access to services like water jet cutting, professional boiler testing, sign writing, and more.

New Builds
We can build live steam engines, battery electric locomotives, and rolling stock tailored to your specifications. Our capabilities extend up to 10 1/4″ gauge or smaller 6″ scale models for road steam. Whether you’re after a functional, reliable model for operation or a high-finesse display piece, we’ll guide your project from initial concept through design, manufacture, testing, and final delivery.
Kit Builds
Have you got an unfinished loco kit gathering dust in your garage? Let us help! If you’re looking to get that project up and running, whether for use around the garden or at the local club track, we can finish it off and get your wheels turning again.
Rebuilds and Restoration
We offer expert restoration services for live steam locomotives and rolling stock, bringing them back to full working condition. Our team performs necessary repairs, part replacements, and mechanical upgrades to improve performance and reliability.
Design Services
Looking to create something new? Our CAD services mean that we can model and set out working drawings for your new project. Whether it’s for a new build or a re-draw of your own plans, we’ll be able to help and offer pattern making if possible.
Painting and Finishing
Our painting and finishing services not only enhance the appearance of your models but also protect them for the long haul. We pay close attention to historical detail, from original colour swatches to addition elements of detail, ensuring your models look that bit more special.
