7 1/4 Romulus 0-6-0 ‘George’

This is ‘George’ – a heavy duty 0-6-0T Romulus tank locomotive with accompanying tender in 7 1/4” gauge. A heavily re-designed version of the famous Romulus loco, based on the Maggie designs of Frank Birchall.
Modifications include a larger boiler, Piston valves for the 2 cylinders actuated by proper Walschearts valve gear, Six driving wheels with the centre set flangeless to enable negotiation of tight curves. Vacuum and air brake systems, along with loco handbrake. 12V and 24V electrical supply so you can turn up at a rally and be totally self sufficient. There’s even a Padded comfy seat and carpeted tool storage!
The cab has been built to the classic Kerr Stuart style with the Black paintwork in great condition. All the fittings on the backhead are industrial spec. and there is a chime whistle fitted. Full boiler history. Engine was rebuilt with new commercial boiler (steel) in 2021 and has had the bottom end refurbished here over the last few weeks, which included:

Replacement drain cock linkage

New piston valve rings

New die blocks throughout

New connecting rod bushings

New lubricator

Recommissioned for sale with fresh boiler certification issued January 2024. The engine has two reliable live steam injectors, ball valve regulator, 2x saftey valves, 2x water gauges, blower, ejector, ashpan with damper, cylinder drain cocks and a new mechanical lubricator.

Romulus 0-4-0  is a Well-Tank locomotive in 7 1/4″ gauge, designed by Roger Marsh and has Hackworth Valve Gear. This simple and rugged design has resulted in many varied examples being completed which are now running at both club tracks and commercially. Maggie is a developmend of the Romulus design by Frank Birchall which offers improvements such as Walscheart’s valve gear, piston valves and six driving wheels.
