Description
The LNWR G2A class were heavy 0-8-0 freight locomotives, rebuilt from the earlier G2 class with superheating under George Whale and C. J. Bowen Cooke. Designed for arduous mineral and goods work, they combined strong tractive effort with improved efficiency. Later absorbed into the LMS, the G2As remained dependable performers, working long-distance freight services across the former LNWR network well into the 1960s.
