This is a great little engine. It arrived earlier in the year and has now properly been thru the workshop to get the drain cocks working and valve timing right. Whilst here we ordered and fitted some new nameplates and have treated the engine to some pinstriping as the engine carried in the 1980s-early 2000s.
This model was built to order by a commercial model maker in Cheltenham making this is a one-owner engine. The condition of the paintwork has improved considerably with a good polish and a clean, showing a colour almost akin to Foster Green. The bottom end is in good order with the engine having seen some but not excessive use over the years.

We particularly like the added oil cans and prep gear modelled in the cab – a whimsical touch. There is also a dummy displacement lubricator mounted near the chimney.

Don Young’s well produced design is a popular choice for modellers looking to build a compact and powerful 5inch engine. The Quarry Hunslets have done almost as well in preservation with many putting in sterling work across the U.K.
