7 1/4” gauge Holmside 0-6-0t
£3,865.00
This is side tank variant of the popular Holmside 0-6-0 side tank designed by Martin Evans.
Whilst this is technically a running engine, it is certainly a project engine.
The boiler has had a full hydaulic shell test, which showed no leaks and proved the structure as sound. However, when steamed the regulator simply does not seal. In the workshop we had to drive it on the reverser only to see that the engine turned over under steam, which it did.
The safety valves worked well, as did one of the two injectors fitted.
There is a third clack valve on the boiler side to presumably fit in with a hand pump, which was removed ready for replacement and never re-fitted.
The engine’s paintwork, once nicely lined, will need repair or better a complete repaint.
The locomotive has no drain cocks, although the mechanism to the cab and drop arm is there, we would recommend taking the time to fit these.
The fireman’s side big end will want rebushing at some point in the future. The rest of the rods and motion are pretty tight and would not require attention.
All these jobs once done will result in a neat and tidy engine. It steamed well on the rolling road (the engine is not superheated). It is fitted with a working handbrake, mechanical lubricator, whistle, injectors x2, pressure gauge, water gauge frame and pole reverser.
The engine comes with a heavy duty driving truck with a water tank, the body is in the style of an LMS box van.
